The New Beginning - My Parents Waterfront Home on Kerr Lake

My Parents Pimped Out Waterfront Home on Kerr Lake (Buggs Island) - in Clarksville, VA

My parents have successfully moved and unpacked in their new house in time for Thanksgiving 2012.  The first two posts mapping the sale and initial construction and the construction progress update were fairly easy - it hadn't hit me yet.  They used to live right down the road; we could visit any day - unannounced and unplanned.  Now, my parents live roughly 2 hours away from Charlottesville, the quick drive down the road to hang out with the parents is no longer available.  If you are lucky enough to have met my entire family, you know that we are extremely close, probably due to the constant moving that goes with the Army lifestyle.  So don't worry, we will find times to hang out, celebrate, and be together.  That being said, the children (I say that, but all three of us are adults now) are extremely happy for our parents.  Ever since we were kids they have always wanted a house on the water.  It's been a lifelong goal of theirs, and they finally have it!  My parents made every right decision and made every sacrifice for our family; they deserve this.  No - they have earned it.  Congratulations to Mom and Dad!

Alright, let's jump into this, the much anticipated post showing the finished product of my parents new abode in Clarksville, VA on Kerr Lake!  Let's start with the intangible.

This is the view from the peninsula right around the corner from my parents new house.  Thought it would be fitting to start with this photo at dusk on Thanksgiving Day.  I'm thankful to be alive, healthy, with my family and looking at this beautiful view:

View of the house from the street, the driveway will eventually be paved (it has to settle for a year)

Front View of the Property

Left Side of the front of the house, attached two car garage

Left Side of the house (right side of the rear), showcasing the private, screened porch off the Master Bedroom

Rear View of the Property, full length deck and lower patio area below

Right side view of the House (left side of the rear)

Right side view of the house

Ok, now onto the interior of the property, this is the view from the front door/foyer area.  We see the living room area, access to the rear deck, recessed lighting, ceiling fans, and a beautiful hickory hardwood floor.

This is another view of the living room, built in bookcases and a gas fireplace, wired for surround sound and a flat screen tv above the fireplace

The next two photos will showcase the kitchen.  This is a ceramic tiled floor, granite counter tops, drop and recessed lighting, stainless steel appliances, and a breakfast nook on the lake side!

With a short walk down the hallway, the first room you will come to on the left is the study.  It has hickory hardwood flooring, lots of outlets, side by side double hung windows to provide lots of light!

Leaving the study, heading further down the hallway, you will come to the laundry/mudroom on the left.  Its the entrance from the garage as well.

At the end of the hallway, you come to the master bedroom.  This has an entrance to the screened in porch on the rear deck, wall to wall carpet, and a ceiling fan. (every bedroom will have two photos, one from the door and one from a corner on the opposite side of the room)

Of course, you wouldn't have a master bedroom without a master bathroom, would you?  Here is the master bathroom, featuring ceramic tile, his and her sinks, and floor to ceiling tiled shower with a seat!

On the opposite end of the house, remember we started from the foyer, near the middle of the front of the house, we have two bedrooms and another bathroom.  The photos will start with bedroom two:

Bedroom 3

Bathroom 2, in the hallway between bedroom two and bedroom three.

Also, there is a full, walkout, unfinished basement for future expansion plumbed for another full bathroom.  The estimate for the basement is already in, and as soon as the crew can finish another job in South Boston, they will be back to start work on the basement.

By the way, want to know the mark not just a good, but GREAT contractor?  They leave a present for you to find :)  Thanks Steve Boelte, owner of Absolute Contracting!

Let me wrap this up two more water photos, one during the day and another view at sunset

Congratulations again Mom and Dad!  We'll be sure to make a number of visits, so be ready for some speed boating :)
