Bonds started neutral this morning and stocks started down this morning and have since rebounded. With stocks rebounding bonds are falling. Would advise locking if you are closing in 30 days.

Market Comment

Mortgage Bonds are trading lower this morning, erasing some of yesterday afternoon's gains.
In the news today, Consumer Confidence for September was reported quite a bit lower than expectations. On the news, Stocks reversed lower, helping Mortgage Bonds improve from their worst levels. Also today, the Case-Shiller Home Price Index came in better than expectations and may indicate that that the worst of the housing price declines are behind us.I recommend floating for now. But with the nearest floor of support sitting 50 basis points beneath the current level, be prepared to lock quickly if the situation changes.

Securitization Group Introduces Coding to Decipher Loan-Level Data within Mortgage Pools The American Securitization Forum has launched a new standardized universal code that identifies critical information about mortgages and other loans securitized for the secondary market. The objective of the initiative is to improve the flow of information and disclosure to investors and renew activity in the securitization markets to free up more capital for lending. Declining California Home Sales Follow National Trend While national sales figures for previously-owned homes dropped 2.7 percent from July to August, the numbers for the Golden State - typically considered a barometer for other housing markets - receded even further. According to data just released by the California Association of Realtors, sales of existing-homes in the state fell 5.1 percent in August compared to the previous month, but still represent a considerable improvement over last summer's conditions. Administration to Spend $35 Billion on Local Mortgage Lenders The White House will soon give up to $35 million to state and local housing authorities to keep mortgages available for low- and middle-wage citizens. The bold government action comes at a time when some in Washington are expressing doubts over federal spending. Lending at many housing finance agencies - which together fund about 100,000 mortgages annually nationwide - has dried up, deepening the housing crisis in the view of some administration officials. BoA Pulls out of ACORN Partnership on Borrower Outreach Bank of America Corp has cut off all its business with the housing arm of the ACORN advocacy group, adding that it will not enter into any further agreements with ACORN or any of its affiliates pending a review of the group's activities. The move is a major blow to the left-leaning housing advocacy group as it reels from right-wing rancor and self-inflicted scandal.
